The Bell P-39 Airacobra had a lot going for it in terms of becoming America's next great fighter (1 x 37mm cannon; 4 x 12.7mm machine guns). Unfortunately for the type, US Army meddling insisted on rendering the aircraft to a more pedestrian role of close-support platform and stripping it of its vital high-performance turbosupercharger. The resulting design endeared itself to a very few and was particularly shunned by those expecting more. Nevertheless, the P-39 would go on to provide as a steady performer in the low-level assault role with the Soviet Air Force (via Lend-Lease), Australia and - of course - the Untied States of America. BTR-70: BETTER THAN BTR-60

Since then, the system has seen countless miles of service with varied operators across the globe.
