    Nestled between the Transonic and Hypersonic speed envelopes lies Supersonic - the current measuring stick for many military aircraft types.



    For the purposes of this listing, Supersonic Speed is defined as a rate of travel exceeding the speed of sound with the object traveling at sea level across dry air. The speed is approximately 1,235 kilometers per hour (768 miles per hour). The Transonic Speed envelope covers 988 to 1,482 kmh while the Supersonic Speed envelope covers 1,235 to 6,174 kmh. Hypersonic speeds begin around 6,174 and measure into 12,348 kmh.
