The Battle of Britain was a major air offensive in the Second World War to which Germany sought to overtake the skies over southern England and pave the way for a general land invasion. With German forces already in control of Belgium, Holland and France, very little stood in the way of the mighty German Luftwaffe. British Prime Minister, taking over for the embattled Neville Chamberlain, rallied his people and his Royal Air Force to stand up to the aggression.

The result was not what the Germans expected. Stiff resistance and an ever increasingly skillful group of pilots began to repel the Luftwaffe so much so that it became the first major defeat suffered by the Third Reich steamroller since their invasion of Czechoslovakia. In the end, the Battle of Britain would become the legendary battlecry for so many of Britain's citizens and glorify the bulldog facade of one Winston Churchill.

Many of the aircraft utilized throughout the Battle of Britain would see even more action through the upcoming years of World War Two for both sides. Whereas the focus of the German plight would be continued development of existing fighters and fighter-bomber variants (not to mention pioneering jet technology), the British cause would see a revolution in aircraft design as a whole, producing a plethora of memorable airframes that lived on well into the Cold War.
